I really liked this one, short and sweet about a teenager writing to another teenager at war in Vietnam....In a time where one could get kicked out of the army for his sexual orientation and people could get really hurt, in some places it was even illegal.... could you imagine that? But, in writing to each other they both realized what it could mean to be attracted to each other in more ways then just being pen pals... Danny has a hard time with it and goes through a really dark and depressing time I felt really bad for him... But a surprise visit from Johnny set him straight. It was so cute and so real I loved reading it...I hated what ended up happening to Johnny but I was glad Danny was there for him reguardless.
Overall, a really really really sweet read, I'm glad I happened upon it :)

Yours Johnny edition by Hollis Shiloh Romance eBooks Reviews
This story stayed with me. These boys facing the horrors of war, stigma, and small town life was gut wrenching! I cried for them and was happy to see them reach for a future together!
Good book. I was a bit surprised at the twist but I love the way it was handled. I really felt for those two boys and rooted for them both. Couldn't put it down. Not just for YA. I thoroughly enjoyed it
Hollis Shiloh is an expert at writing sweet m/m romance short stories and this one came in at just over 4.5 stars for me. I really like the unique approach of setting a story at a very traumatic time in history (the Vietnam war) and then juxtaposing the lives of two nineteen year old boys, one of whom is in the armed forces and in the line of fire and the other who is ineligible for the draft but faces his own demons at home. The two become pen-pals and even through their brief and sometimes awkward letter exchanges, they become kindred spirits. The story takes some unexpected turns and it's definitely a tear jerker, but the love underpinning the relationship provides a solid core to help the boys get through their problems. I'd take half a star off for a bit of insta-love that requires a bit of suspension of disbelief, but that's difficult to avoid in a short story. And while I respect that every story must have an end, and short stories, by their nature, usually do not give us a fully robust picture of the characters' lives, I confess I do wish that this one could have been stretched out into a novela, because there will be many difficulties for the characters to face after the story ends, and I would love to see the author's take on that part of the story. However, I picked up this book expecting a short and sweet read, and my expectations were perfectly satisfied.
I never in a million years thought I'd want to read a book set during the Vietnam War era, but this was just such a painful yet fascinating flashback to that time. I was alive then, though a mere child. *coff* Every evening the nightly news was filled with a long, long list of the dead. That's my main memory of that time. The story's presentation was so gripping and amusing, initially in the form of Pen Pal letters, in a world before the internet. Really good writers can preserve history and let people understand how society has changed and what people went through, and this is a gentle reminder of how young people suffered in that era. Nowadays war has been rather glamorized and sanitized in popular culture. During the draft era the public had a harsher truth about reality and society was in more turmoil about various issues. Reading this book really brought some of the seventies back to me and made me happy that we (hopefully) learned some lessons from it. Besides, this is just a really sweet romance novel. This author has a nice hand writing historical settings.

Pen pals become lovers in this almost tragic story. A confused and depressed teen corresponds with a soldier in Vietnam and they fall for each other. They each almost lose the other one.
Hollis Shiloh has been growing on me with each new work. I'm a sucker for books involving war survivors Shiloh's "Winton's Strays," John C. Houser's "The Door Behind Us," and Mike Enfield's "Off the Old Head of Kinsale" all come to mind. "Yours, Johnny" may not be of the same stature as these books, but I found it well written and intensely moving. I'm not ashamed to admit that I appreciate a story that moves me to tears, and this one did at least a couple of times. Whatever little flaws a story may have, I cherish it if it moves me. This uncomplicated, beautiful story did just that and I'll count it as a favorite.
I really enjoyed this story and didn't put it down until I finished. Great MCs, and I loved the way things evolved between them slowly, almost before they even saw what was happening. I loved how they were both open & honest with each other - well, for the most part - in their letters, and Danny made me laugh. My heart went out to him when he had that bout of depression. I even liked Danny's friend, Maddy, and I liked that she told Johnny what was going on because he really did need to know. You have to assume that the ending was HEA, as it usually is with Shiloh's works, but the ending was rather abrupt. Still, this was another of Shiloh's really great books.
