This book like it's title says is a "Study". Though I have been a student of the esoteric side of things for many years this book holds some basic truths that can be read by anyone and the very reading of it seems to gleam a new understanding. Even when I don't understand it. Highly recommended for an ongoing study in Conciousness.Product details

A Study in Consciousness A Contribution to the Science of Psychology edition by Annie Wood Besant Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
Besant once again in her clear and concise manner bridges the gap between the human and the occult ways of viewing our purpose on the planet. Absolutely fascinating.
A Study in Consciousness is the most comprehensive exploration of consciousness that I have read to date. Overall this book is enjoyable to read and will provide much to consider for the student of consciousness.
Concerning the version - There are several typos which detract from the overall experience. For example, Logos is sometimes written as Locos. But there are a few other obvious typos as well. In my opinion it is still worth owning an electronic copy of this book, but hopefully the publisher will take note and make the necessary corrections.
There are so many words we throw around every day without even vaguely understanding what they really are thought, memory, anticipation, happiness, will, desire, etc.
AB did a workmanlike job of illuminating these functions from the pov of someone with apparent access to the first couple of inner planes, and actually makes sense out of how these vibratory states of the mind are generated by and affect our outer and inner Self. She is however limited IMO to the lower planes, so does not seem to grasp the Creator's central role in all of this, and so misses their actual full significance for the spiritual aspirant--but still is able to hook things together so they make some sense within her universe.
She clarifies why we have to meditate every day (because the vibratory level of our mind drops down again if we do not) and why we need to keep our mind constantly occupied (otherwise stray thought forms will enter and distract us), and why the mind unfailingly leads us into trouble and away from our real spiritual work (it actually relishes the gross vibrations of conflict, worry, fear, danger, hatred, etc.).
For a higher pov on these questions, with the crucial missing piece added of the need for a Living Master, try Inner and Outer Peace through Meditation or Empowering the Soul through Meditation, both by HH Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, an actual living perfect Master with full access to inner planes far beyond what these theosophists described--or dreamed of.###
A little challenging to understand -- at least the beginning -- but I have hope!
In order for one to profit from this work, one has to be somewhat acustomed with the Theosophist terminology. But then again, I don't think this book (having in mind the subject it treats and the number of 100+ years that passed since the book was written) will appeal to the casual reader, but will maybe appeal to someone specifically interested in the subject of consciousness.
I have found a great deal of interesting information and ideas to ponder on, some I did not understand and with some I agree not. I hope that you, dear reader, will benefit from it.
